Resources on Mormonism
Why Mormonism?
We at Main Street Church are often asked, "Why do you focus so much of your efforts on Mormonism?" They frequently believe our intent is to be antagonistic, or that we feel "threatened" by them.
We are neither antagonistic toward nor threatened by Mormons, but rather, we care deeply about them. We challenge the teachings of Mormonism, because we care about truth, and we care about Mormons, many of whom reject biblical truth. Main Street Church is located in a community that is predominantly LDS (Mormon), and so many of our friends, neighbors, and even family members are Mormons.
The information we share is intended for those Mormons who are asking questions--questions about what they have always believed and have been taught. Questions about the validity of their doctrines, questions that more often than not, the LDS Church leadership is either unable or unwilling to address to their satisfaction.
We believe that truth should not fear investigation. Questioning should be allowed. Even challenging questions. Even questions that come from uncertainty and doubt. After all, if truth is really truth, then it should stand on its own, right? It should be able to withstand challenge. It shouldn't need to hide behind a prohibition of challenging questions. So if the "truth" that you cling to does not allow questioning, if it refuses to consider challenges honestly, then how reliable is that 'truth'?
And we're not expecting you to just take our word for it. We encourage you to check up on the facts for yourself. Nevertheless, we strive to be both respectful and accurate in the information that we provide. And we invite feedback from anyone--LDS and non-LDS alike--to help improve our website.
This information is also intended for those who seek to understand Mormons and Mormonisms a little better, to learn about how to reason with them, and most importantly, to share the Good News of the biblical Jesus Christ with them--which is, after all, our primary goal.
